Kruger National Park

“3 nights at Bakubung in the Pilansberg”

The Pilanesberg reserve stretches over 55,000 hectares. It does not have massive herds of a game like the Kruger, but over 3 days and 6 game drives, we managed to see many elephants, black rhino, white rhino, 2 prides of lion, a rare karakul, cheetah and lots of general game which is pretty good. One either hires a private vehicle or books for the game drive at 5:30 am or 4:30 pm. These vehicles are large. The seating arrangements for the guests are chaotic. They should number the vehicles and give the guests tickets to a specific vehicle, otherwise, it is a free-for-all. The ranger who we really found most engaging and very knowledgeable was Mary-Jane. There are toilet stops during the drive at specific hides and drinks are offered to the guests. The bush braai was most enjoyable on Saturday night at a specific area in the bush. Potjiekos in abundance. A very enjoyable experience.

“Wonderful, Superb”

I spent 2 nights at Bakubung and the experience was outstanding. It is my first visit to Bakabung, having stayed at other lodges in the Pilanesberg, and this hotel is by far the best in the park. The hotel has an amazing location close to the Bakabung gate, making access easy and convenient. Checkin was a breeze, the welcome was warm, the room was excellent, the amenities perfect, the welcome note and gift basket a very warm touch, the dinner buffet was excellent and breakfast was very good. A special thanks to Muzo for a brilliant early morning game drive. I can’t wait to be back. Very highly recommended!

“Magical place for kids and adults”

So many positives about this lodge. The rooms are traditional, cozy African style decor – 2 double beds – so great for families. The buffets were exceptional – both breakfast and dinner were amazing – kids just didn’t know what section to eat at first. The wine was very reasonably priced, and staff were happy to save the bottle for me for the next night, (single mum – couldn’t drink a whole one). The game drives were fab – had John 4 times and Steve once – they were so knowledgeable and made it all beyond exciting. Amy and Gill did great stuff with the kids – snake talk, junior ranger walk and giraffe hoof plaster cast. The kids loved the trampoline and playground – we don’t play tennis – but courts there looked good. Negatives – only 2 really. The pool was icy cold – but this was winter and I am guessing an eco-lodge wouldn’t want to waste energy heating a pool. The other is direction signs to the lodge are poor – we got very lost. Minor things though – I defy anyone not to love this place, and we will definitely return.

“Great time at Bakubung Bush Lodge”

I had an excellent stay at the Bakubung Bush Lodge. Although it was only for one night I can say that the room was excellent. Very luxury and piece full with a very I had an excellent stay beautiful view of that little lac at the game reserve. The best moment was an early morning gazing to the lac from the veranda. Very serein and beautiful. We also toured the game reserve during the day and experienced the encounter with elephants, rhinos, hypos, hainas, wild beast and plenty of other interesting animals. We were looking for loins but we weren’t lucky enough to find some, but they say there are lions in the park. There is a very nice restaurant at the lodge where you can taste various kinds of good food. There is also a very nice conference room for those of you who will need to use that kind of facility. They are very cautious in being green and respecting the environment. In short, we had a great time.
