Activities

Sabi Sand Game Reserve lies adjacent to the Kruger National Park with no fences between the two reserves, allowing game to move freely between the areas.  The Sabi River and the Sand River both cross Sabi Sand making it a haven for wildlife and providing exception Big 5 game viewing opportunities. The abundance in water sources for animals to drink has resulted in the area teaming with antelope, zebra, giraffe, hyena, leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and cheetah.

A large variety of flora, fish, amphibians and over 110 reptiles also call the reserve home.  Five hundred bird species make it a bird lovers paradise and a number of endangered species also roam the reserve making for magical encounters when getting a rare glimpse of Honey Badgers, Ground Hornbills and Wild Dogs.

Sabi Sand Game Reserve is the birthplace of sustainable wildlife tourism in Southern Africa.  The reserve’s goal is to promote and conserve the fauna and flora in the area and preserve the area as a wildlife sanctuary.

Off-site guests can venture out for exciting adventures such as helicopter flights, fishing, hot air ballooning and mountain biking.  While on-site luxurious living never ends with afternoons lazing at the villa private pool, enjoying a massage and evenings soaking up the romance of Africas glittering skies around a large glowing fire.

Kruger National Park

“Fantastic game drives, food and fun”

Our time with the team at Cheetah Plains was top notch! Myke and King, our guide and tracker, were very knowledgeable and friendly. We loved the quaint rooms, the fantastic lodge and everyone on the staff. The game drives were great as well. We saw everything we hoped for and more. Sitting by the pool and watching the animals at the watering hole during siesta was fun.

“Outstanding 4 days”

Cheetah Plains is a beautiful and relaxing reserve. The staff were all very attentive and knowledgeable and Gary the general manager was always available and happy to discuss wildlife, birds, history etc. The game drives provided wonderful sightings of leopard, lion, elephant and many birds and staying for 4 days allowed us to look for different things every day. Meals were lovely and during the afternoon time to relax, read and soak up the bush.
You will not be disappointed.

“BIG 5 Tick!!”

Stayed one night and wished I had more nights. heard leopard and lions at night, had a room near the water so could hear the hippos outside munching away. Where else in the world can you have this amazing experience. Candace was there to greet me and showed me around, had a great refreshing welcome drink. Small intimate camp, really rustic and quaint. Loved every part of it. The food was just superb and Andrew our guide was so knowledgeable. we saw everything in just one afternoon game drive.
AMAZING!! and highly recommended.

“Unique & unforgettable”

We will remember this trip forever!! Been to the Kruger Park before but here the quality of the guides & trackers was unbelievable – from the Big 5 through click beetles & termite mounds to seemingly every type of grass that grows there – so it was a uniquely educational experience too. The food, the general atmosphere & the whole environment, comfort & layout at the lodge were just perfect to relax & feel at one with Africa!
