MalaMala Main Camp is the oldest and most historical private game reserve in South Africa and the first to make the transition from hunting to photographic safaris. It is the blueprint on which the South African safari industry was built. Every aspect of the MalaMala Main Camp is designed to appreciate and enjoy the view of the surrounding wilds. Pathways wind their way along the perimeter of the camp to reveal individual ochre colored units tucked into the greenery which flanks the Sand River.
Massive trees and rolling green lawns are filled with birdsong, with the occasional antelope or elephant which seeks the succulence of greenery. The camp is unfenced – an oasis in the middle of the bushveld.

“Mala Mala October 2017”

What a terrific experience! To celebrate a “significant” birthday we stayed at Mala Mala for three nights, and had a superb experience from all points of view. Our accomodation was extremely comfortable and well appointed, (with wildlife directly outside our balcony! ) the standard of food and drink available was superb and could not be faulted, and the staff who looked after us could not have been more professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Having been on numerous safari holidays, I was aware that Mala Mala had much to beat, and did so. The game viewing was superb, and our Game Ranger proved to be outstanding, he was nothing if not extremely knowledgeable, and with a great sense of humour. It was a joy to be able to see not only the Big Five, but also all the other smaller wildlife and wide range of birds without being rushed and without having more than two game viewing vehicles present at any one time. An unforgettable experience.

“The very best (if you can afford it)”

We stayed here two nights as part of a National Geographic tour. Mala Mala is spectacular. From your room you can watch the elephants and antelope visiting the water in the river. Giraffe walk by. Baboons may decide to bang on the roof if they see a leopard in the grass. There are antelope on the grounds. The guides are the very best: knowledgeable, great at addressing each person’s interests. (Oh yeah, and very cute). Meals were excellent. This is the place to go for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the “big five” at close range.

“Amazing, outstanding, awesome...”

Words cannot describe the Mala Mala! Accommodation is lovely, the setting of the main camp is outstanding & the Rangers are extremely capable & knowledgeable.
But the highlights of the Mala Mala are the Game Drives! The Rangers got us to within literally10 feet of all the ‘Big Five’, the animals are so used to the land Rovers that they ignore them completely. If you want to see animals in their natural habitat, this is a MUST!!

“Beyond all expectations!”

Incredible property and atmosphere. Suite was amazing, large, 2 bathrooms, sitting area, all amenities included. Staff was outstanding. Lucky, our guide, was an amazing tracker and always found the animals. Saw all big 5 on single afternoon game drive. Camp staff were all outstanding, friendly, helpful. Kept us safe and comfortable at all times. Food abundant and delicious. Accommodated our vegetarian needs. Small shop at camp. Couldn’t have asked for anything different….a dream experience.
