Activities

Most of Shamwari’s guests agree that the game drives are the best activity of their stay. While the morning drives with the sun beginning to rise and a cup of hot coffee are exceptional, the evening drives are purely exhilarating.

After stopping for sundowners in a scenic location, and after the sun has fallen from view, you explore the dark wilderness by spotlight, hoping to catch a predator in action! The lions and leopards are also not the only fascinating creatures that are more active once night has fallen; there are many nocturnal animals in the reserve.

Game drives at Shamwari are completely safe and expertly handled by experienced and trained game rangers and trackers. The open safari vehicles used for the excursions are perfect for uninterrupted views of the wildlife, and more than comfortable enough for guests on 3 – 4 hour safari drives. 6 – 10 people will share a vehicle. Your friendly and knowledgeable game ranger will try to locate the animals that you most want to see.

Shamwari is a Big Five reserve, and is also home to cheetah, hippo, giraffe, antelope, hyena, zebra and many more species.

You can also view Shamwari’s spectacular fauna and flora on game walks. Qualified game rangers will lead you safely through the vast wilderness and provide interesting information about all that makes up this fantastic reserve.

“Amazing stay. Marvelous service.”

We spent three days at the game reserve staying at Sarili Lodge. Service was marvelous, The lodge has only 5 rooms so the attention is very personalized.Stephanie heading the lodge is such a sweet person who takes care of every single need. All the service was just fabulous. Siya, our ranger, gave us unforgettable experiences during the games.
We enjoyed so much we didn’t want to leave it.
I’ll never forget their welcome after each game, their views, the peaceful ambient.
Sure we’ll come back.

“Pampered Excellence in the Bush”

Sarili Lodge spoiled us rotten while we stayed with them for 3 nights. The intimate nature of the Lodge having only 5 rooms and superb staff attending to your every need made us feel extra special. We wanted for nothing. Our room was fabulous, the meals were delicious, including an afternoon tea!
Our ranger was amazing and bent over backwards to drive us around to have memorable experiences. Mission accomplished every day with big smiles, laughs and lots learned in the process!
Thank you Sarili for such marvelous memories and making us feel like family. We will be back!

“Superb!”

We travelled with our 5-year-old son and had an amazing time here. The lodge is fantastic, service and food impeccable and you get to see lots of animals right from the front deck overlooking the river (we saw lion, hippo, elephants to name but a few!) We are now back in the UK wishing we were back in the bush. The conservation effort at Shamwari is really special and it was great to visit/learn about Born Free and the Rhino Awareness Centre. Our son was blown away and learnt a lot. Big thanks to Ari our ranger who was excellent, so informative. Also to all of the staff at the lodge who were so welcoming, especially Thembalani.

“Paradise, great and wonderful on all counts...”

This was a honeymoon destination, not sure what was the expectation, how good, bad, indifferent the Lodge was going to be. The photos on website does not do the place justice, this is a fabulous place. Was an upgrade as Rippons was closed, like an other contributor and to say it was good, is an understatement.
We had a great time, the game drives were incredible especially an afternoon drive where we saw cheetahs at a kill, and lions follow down, all up close and personal. One guest said it was the best game drive he experienced in 20 odd years. Saw loads of animals, no cape buffalo, they elsewhere on estate, saw 4 of big 5.
The food was superb, the staff brilliant, superlatives hard to find really.
Dinner, BBQ and lunches were fit for a king. Stayed for 2 nights and had four game drives. If we stayed longer the clothes would not have fitted!!
Great memories from Sarili Lodge……
