• 10 Spacious Luxury Huts

  • True african big five safari
  • Award winning & excellent rated

Umlani Bush Camp is the work of a close-knit family, and that permeates every detail and activity.

The fresh pastries for breakfast – prepared by chef Goodness (yes, her real name), the stories rangers and trackers share during game drives, the way the camp is subtlety lit by countless candles and lanterns every night, and how managers Morné en Melissa Hamlyn know you by name before you even arrive.

Your safari home is a simple, yet comfortable one, in the heart of the Timbavati Game Reserve.

With limited cell phone or WiFi service for guests, tell people at home you will be in sync with the elephants – instead of your Instagram account. For real wildlife-seekers: climb the ladder of the Umlani Treehouse.

High up in the wriggly branches, it is just you and the bush. Stay for a couple of hours (with cold drinks, soft pillows and warm blankets in reach), or spend the night while elephants rumble underneath. Overlook endless treetops, and fall in love with this land in a heartbeat.

“Definitely coming back!”

This was an incredible trip. We stayed for two nights, and my only regret is not staying longer (next time will hopefully come for 3/4). The hosts, staff, trackers, rangers, and guests were all really kind and made everyone feel welcome. The game drives were full of sightings, adventure and amazement, whilst sitting very comfortably. The rustic style lodging made it feel like you were close to nature at all times, and the tree house experience is one I’ll never forget (although would not recommend to do it alone, as can be scary the first time). Felt like I was well fed and taken care of as well.

“Fantastic bush experience”

This lodge is everything what I wish for a fantastic safari experience. The rooms are so nice. It is a small camp, not fenced. The food is fantastic. A nice pool where you can relax during the afternoon. I like it that the rooms are a bit open. You hear the noise of roaring lions and the sound of Hyena’s during the night.
The guiding is very good and you have good chances to spot animals during your drives.
No doubt, this camp is worth a visit in a private open to Kruger area. Book this camp, you will not regret it.

“Trip of a lifetime”

I took my 10 year old son for 3 nights and we had the most amazing time. The bush camp is stunning and the huts are perfect. We had the lion rondavel, they all have really comfy beds and an outside bathroom, we had a pet toad in ours. The staff are all lovely and the food was 5 star, even for a veggie like me. The waiting staff were all lovely and very attentive.
Shadrack was our guide and he was superb, so knowledgeable and interesting. The game drives are exciting, the vehicles comfortable and we even used the rain ponchos twice. We saw leopard, elephant, wild dogs, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, zebra etc.
I can’t fault this place and would love to go back again one day. Thank you Umlani.

“Wow! What an experience.”

Umlani was the second of two camps we visited this trip and it definitely did not let us down. I especially appreciated the small size of Umlani which made the experience feel much more personal. We stayed in one of their “ecohuts”, which was very comfortable. The bathroom with it’s outdoor shower may not be for everyone, but for me it added to the adventure. The bed was very comfortable and the room more than adequate in every way. We had monkeys and hornbills sitting outside on the windowsills. Game often wandered near or through the camp. The evening meals by lantern light, with fellow guests, gave the chance to share the days experiences with one another and meet people from many different countries. The highlight is definitely the game drives. Game was plentiful and the staff were pleasantly aggressive in seeking out the hard to see animals. One feature that other camps may not have have are bush walks and access to their treehouse overlooking a watering hole. You can request an overnight stay in the tree house when you book or after you arrive. The basic accommodations in the tree house may not be for everyone, but offers a very unique experience of total solitude in the bush, under the stars. You can also have the tree house to yourselves for a morning or afternoon if overnight is too much. I would definitely recommend Umlani to anyone who wants a game-filled, authentic experience.
