Kruger National Park offers more than 20 SANParks rest camps ranging from basic camping to fully catered safari lodges, plus dozens of luxury private lodges in the private reserves bordering the park. The best SANParks camps are Skukuza (largest, most facilities), Satara (central, best for lions), and Lower Sabie (Sabie River location, excellent wildlife). Best SANParks Rest Camps
Skukuza — Kruger’s Flagship Camp
The largest and best-equipped rest camp in Kruger. Located on the Sabie River in southern Kruger — one of the most productive wildlife areas. Facilities include restaurants, a shop, car rental, doctor, and school. Good base for exploring southern Kruger’s game-rich roads. Busy in peak season; book well in advance.
Satara — Best for Lions
Situated in central Kruger’s open grasslands — the highest lion density area in the park. The second-largest SANParks camp, with good facilities and a consistently excellent location for big cat sightings. Lion sightings within the camp boundary are not uncommon. The must-do loop from Satara to N’wanetsi is Kruger’s most productive lion road.
Lower Sabie — River Location & Wildlife
Smaller and quieter than Skukuza, Lower Sabie sits on the Sabie River — one of Kruger’s most productive wildlife corridors. The Sunset Dam hippo pool is walking distance from camp. Excellent for elephant, leopard, and general game. High demand camp — fills early.
Olifants — Best Views in Kruger
Perched on a cliff above the Olifants River, this camp offers the most spectacular views in Kruger. Elephants, hippos, and crocodiles below the cliff are visible from the camp’s veranda. The central location provides access to both north and south of the park. A unique and atmospheric camp.
Berg-en-Dal — Best for Rhino
Southern Kruger’s most modern rest camp. Surrounded by good white rhino habitat. Family-friendly with a swimming pool. Less dramatic scenery than Olifants or Lower Sabie but consistently good for white rhino, wild dog, and general game. Best camp for self-drive families.

Manyeleti — Ultimate Exclusivity
The least-visited private reserve adjacent to Kruger. Three lodges only — Tintswalo Safari Lodge, Honeyguide Tented Camp, and Khoka Moya. Very low vehicle density. Open border with Kruger. Prices generally lower than Sabi Sands with comparable wildlife exclusivity.
