    Activities

Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. Experienced, knowledgeable and personable rangers are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience. Trackers sit up at the front of the ehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skillfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings. Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies. Expect one-of-a-kind photographic pportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species. A treat for keen birders! Guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged. Walks are usually arranged in the early hours during the summer months when temperatures are more moderate. Being on foot affords a unique and altogether different view of the bush (source).

“Great experience and fantastic care/support from staff”

My wife, son & I spent 2 great days at Aquila this week after spending 4 nights in Cape Town. Unfortunately, I was taken ill on our last day which given the reserve’s remote location was very worrying. However Dogukan, the General Manager personally drove me and my family to a pharmacy a few minutes away where the pharmacist (a retired & experienced doctor) prescribed some medicine which enabled me to recover in time for our flight back to London. My son is keen on animal conservation so Dogukan arranged for him to meet Divan the Conservation Manager to explain all the great work Aquila undertake. This has really inspired and encouraged him to continue with his animal conservation dream. Would definitely return and/or support Aquila in the future!

    “Incredible experience”

Checking in was a breeze. Then I enjoyed a spread of a buffet for lunch. The game drive was very good and the fact that they brought us so close to the elephants, rhinos and even the lions was exceptional.
Dinner was once again such a spread followed by a peaceful and quiet night’s sleep. Early the next morning I was suddenly awakened by the sound of a Hippopotamus a few meters away from my room. What an amazing way to start the day.
Before breakfast, I took a horse ride which was also great after so many years since I last rode a horse. The slow walking pace of the group of horses was almost therapeutic to my soul.
What a wonderful gem in such a remote place amongst the dry hills.

    “Brilliant present”

The trip to Aquila was a birthday present and a fantastic experience from start to finish. We mistakenly arrived a day late but Cathy, the lovely receptionist, just smiled and booked us in again without any fuss or hassle. The staff were all genuinely helpful and friendly, and John, our safari driver, couldn’t have been more accommodating about getting us closer to the animals to achieve good photographs, although always respecting their territory. He was an absolute mine of information and made you appreciate what a privilege it was to be there, and seeing the excellent rehabilitation work being done on the reserve.Thank you, Aquila, for an incredible treat.

“Aquila - a relaxing and unique experience”

This is a fantastic experience, especially once you are informed about the animals and why they are there and why the lodge was established. Some would call it a very large zoo but we believe it is truly a rescued wildlife sanctuary. One needs to consider that regardless of this the animals are still wild. The accommodation and food hall is tremendous (and my 15-year-old son loved the buffet food). Special mention to the staff, in particular Melvin our driver. Very knowledgeable and loyal. A great experience and very relaxing.
