Overview

  • 12 Large Spacious Tents
  • Manyeleti Game Reserve
  • True african big five safari
  • Award winning & excellent rated

Honeyguide Mantobeni is a tented safari camp located in the Manyeleti Game Reserve which is adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Experience the African bush and its diverse wildlife during the game drives in open-air vehicles where you can spot the Big 5 and guided walks, all supervised by qualified and experienced guides and trackers.
Mantobeni Camp is designed to reflect Hemingway’s Africa. There are 15 tents which are nestled in a Tamboti grove overlooking a dry river bed. The reception area comprises a large sitting area, an outdoor area with a splash pool and sun loungers, a bar and an extensive climate-controlled wine cellar.
Game visiting the nearby watering hole can be seen from the swimming pool deck which adjoins the reception area.
Mantobeni Camp is more of a remote bush camp, set in a grove of tamboti trees. Its free-standing bedroom tents are set on wooden platforms, with roll-up walls and a run-around terrace, making for a very “up and close-to-nature” feel.
Food at the camp is a highlight, and is a communal affair, usually served outdoors at a long table, with log fires and torches to create a really authentic bush feel. Simple homemade dishes, using predominantly local produce, are plentiful and exquisitely presented.

Activities

Expert game rangers will take guests on guided bush walks or game drives in 4×4 game viewing vehicles and they can expect to see the famous Big five, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino as well as other smaller creatures and many antelope species. As the heat of the African day heightens, and after a game drive of approximately 3 hours, guests leave the bush and return to camp for mid-morning brunch. Afternoons can be spent relaxing by the pool or viewing a passing game from the hide at the nearby waterhole. As sunset approaches, guests will venture into the African bush again for an evening’s game viewing before being treated to a gourmet dinner and campfire stories back at camp. Evening game drives last about 4 hours, and include leisurely sundowners. Honeyguide boasts awe-inspiring views, particularly at sunset.
Group tours are available to the nearby village of Welverdiend, where guests will learn about the relationship between traditional and contemporary living.

“Excellent tented camp”

Our stay at Honeyguide Mantobeni was our first safari experience and we loved it. The tents were warm (beds could be heated if necessary), and all of the meals were incredible. My husband has a food allergy and they were able to accommodate him with no issues.
Our ranger, Twice, made our first safari drives such an amazing experience. He was so knowledgable, very friendly, and helped us see the Big 5 in addition to so many other animals and birds within 2 days. Our tracker Douglas was also great.
We loved being able to see so many animals at the watering hole, right next to the camp, and it was thrilling to see an elephant walk through the camp and even drink from the pool. It was an exciting place and we would definitely recommend it.

“One of the best safari's -- Big 5 and more!”

My boyfriend and I visited Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp after looking at several options. We wanted something that was a bit rustic, where you were close to the wildlife and the bush. This safari delivered! The staff are incomparable — incredibly knowledgeable, generous with their experiences and professional. They went above and beyond to create a memorable experience for us — thank you to Brett and Mavis! We had Briliant and Johnson as our safari drive guide and spotter. They were fantastic! We saw the big 5 and more — even a leopard lounging in a tree, a python sunning itself, and a chameleon in a tree. The tents are, indeed, in the bush so you do hear the animals. If you are easily spooked, this may not be right for you — for example, I was woken during the night by hyena calls. Overall, this is an amazing experience that we highly recommend!

“Back to the Wild!”

What a wonderful experience. We really loved our tent and found it to be very comfortable. The extended lounge area was also great and we loved the open air bathrooms. Waking up to the sound of hyena’s is something we will remember for a long time. Waking up to coffee, hot chocolate and rusks being delivered to your tent was also a bonus 🙂
The game drives were excellent and Anton our ranger and Philip our tracker were great. We had some amazing sightings including a buffalo and lion pride stand off!
The food was superb and very plentiful!
We loved our stay in Mantobeni Camp and hope to return sometime.

“The real thing in Mantobeni”

If you want the real bush experience, Mantobeni is the place to be!! Very nice and well-equipped tents in the middle of the bush where all the animals can visit you because there are no fences. There was even an elephant drinking out of the swimming pool and we were watching him from just a few meters…..
The staff is very relaxed, the food is incredible and our rangers Wayne and Wikus really gave us a lot of information. It is very nice that the ranger and even the management will join the guests at lunch- and dinnertime.
We have seen all of the big five and have even seen wild dogs! Also we have seen lions, hyena, jackal and vultures at a kill. Very good sightings!
This was our fourth time in Sout Africa, but the first time in Mantobeni and we will definitely come back. Until now Mantobeni has been the best lodge and the most layback with the most information we ever had.
Keep on the good work!! Hopefully, we will see you soon…….
Mark and Cindy Rinket.
