Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. Experienced, knowledgeable and personable rangers are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience.

Trackers sit up at the front of the ehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skillfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings. Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies.

Expect one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species. A treat for keen birders! Guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged. Walks are usually arranged in the early hours during the summer months when temperatures are more moderate. Being on foot affords a unique and altogether different view of the bush (source).

“Absolutely First Class”

An experience beyond words. Sensational lodges/apartments each with decks & dive pools, wonderful staff, lovely food (and WARNING: there’s a lot of it!!) and that’s BEFORE you go on a game drive. The array of animals to see, and the knowledge of the guides is beyond compare.

We stayed for 2 nights and were worried it wouldn’t be long enough to see the animals we wanted – but 2 nights means 4 x 3hr game drives (dawn and dusk) which, weather permitting, means 12 hours of wonderful animal watching, which was plenty for us.

“Trip of a Lifetime”

We visited Kichaka to celebrate our 20th anniversary and it was an experience of a lifetime. From the point of arrival to departure we were treated like royalty. The staff are so amazing and accommodating. We were so spoiled for our anniversary, the staff ran a bubble bath full of rose petals and scattered petals on our bed and left us a bottle of champagne on ice. The food was amazing and there was so much of it on offer for the all-inclusive price! I also had several spa treatments and they were wonderful and relaxing. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated and had an amazing view of the watering hole. We could hear lions roar from our veranda. It was quite spectacular and ever so romantic. Our guide Jonty did his utmost to make sure we saw all of the game we wanted to see and all of the staff were brilliant. An experience of a lifetime. I have blogged about our trip on WordPress, my blog name is KittenInTheCity.

“A bit of heaven on earth”

This place is the place of dreams, nothing can prepare you for the beauty and serenity of this place through from the opulent although the gorgeous homely setting of the lodge to the beautiful individual lodges. The staff are extremely attentive although never evident as such you feel immediately welcome and this radiates through your whole stay. The rangers are extremely knowledgable and again nothing is too much trouble and they will go above to ensure you see as much as you ever dreamed possible. Their knowledge of the flora and fauna of the reserve and their intimate knowledge of the reserve as a whole is amazing. Our thanks in this instance for our brilliant guide Ben. Overall this is a place of dreams and the staff make sure they come true. Thank you to Keith the manager of the reserve you and your staff make this an unforgettable stay in every pleasant way possible.

We’re a family of 4 with a 13 and 11-year-old. And our 3 days here was everything and more than all of us could possibly have hoped for. Ben was our game ranger throughout, leading us on 6 outstanding drives full of wonder, cheer and education in the company of some delightful fellow guests. He was brilliant. As was the service and the food at the Lodge itself…from the lemongrass-scented “welcome back” towels after every drive, to the beautiful rooms, the great food, and the immaculate checking in and out. It was the very best way to finish a great fortnight’s trip from Cape Town via the Garden Route.
