Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. Experienced, knowledgeable and personable rangers are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience.
Trackers sit up at the front of the vehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skillfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings. Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies.
Expect one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species. A treat for keen birders! Guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged. Walks are usually arranged in the early hours during the summer months when temperatures are more moderate. Being on foot affords a unique and altogether different view of the bush (source).

“A magical experience”
We stayed one night. We had 2 game drives. They were 4 hours each. We saw amazing animals including 2 female lions in a tree.
The rangers and trackers love what they do. We had Kerri and Thulani. They worked so hard during the drives to make them as memorable as possible.
The rest of the &beyond team are exceptional. They bend over backwards to make your stay special and enjoyable. The rooms are amazing. The linens and towels are the best we ever had. The food is prepared with love.
I cannot recommend this more highly. Imagine looking out your sliding glass door onto a plain and seeing wildebeest snacking, as well as impalas. The monkeys actually came up onto the deck and sat with me.
What an experience!
We stayed 3 nights at the gorgeous Vlei lodge July 31, Aug 1, and Aug 2 and did not want to leave. Everything was perfect! The game drives were so much fun, (thank you Warren, our ranger, and Able our tracker; you guys were awesome!). The accommodations so beautiful and our butler, Michael, we adored! You are the best Michael! The food delicious, prepared by the fabulous chef, Happiness. Wildlife right out our front door suite was amazing! We were in room 6, awesome room! We also want to thank ranger Matt Yardley for his afternoon photography training. It certainly improved our photography skills. Our trip to Vlei was beyond our expectations and thank you to our travel planner from And Beyond, Bronwyn Walker, who put our trip together and made sure all was in order, and answered all questions I had so promptly by email. Thank you to everyone, our trip was BEYOND AMAZING!!! Dave and Jayme from Temecula Calif. USA~ jayme838 ~ Temecula, California
“Beautiful Setting, amazing cheetah experience!”
We recently spent three wonderful nights at Phinda Vlei Lodge as part of our safari trip through Botswana and South Africa. The Lodge and individual accommodations are superb. The staff were extremely friendly and very proud of the local culture and environment. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fantastic time. We will never forget the private dinner that was set up for us in our room following an amazing game drive!
Just like the accommodations, our wildlife experience was also phenomenal! We managed to see the Big Five and then some. The cheetah viewing, in particular, was spectacular; we even managed to observe two sets of cheetah cubs! Leading up to our trip, we read that Phinda is among the best places in the world for cheetah viewing. Our experience at Phinda exceeded those lofty expectations!
“Better than five stars”
We stayed here for three nights as the final part of a six-night stay in Phinda. A small lodge with only six suites, the whole Vlei experience is something that we wish we could have bottled and taken back to cold, leaden-skied England. The large forested area around the lodge seems unpromising for game drives, but the ability to off-road means that, as we did, you can enjoy encounters with, for example, lions in a totally new (to us) way, far from the usual wide open grasslands. This, complemented by the more open terrain affords you the opportunity to get closer to rhino and cheetah than we thought possible. You pre-order your meals from the chef’s suggestions and they are cooked to order and of a staggeringly high standard. (Kudos to Happiness). The focus on your needs, and maximising your enjoyment is very impressive. Both in the lodge and on the drives. One small example, we were asked if there was anything we particularly wanted to see and we said, Chameleon, thinking it was a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. The result, two sightings (courtesy of Thumani) and another super wildlife photo for the album. Very highly recommended.~ BredonHill ~ Tewkesbury, United Kingdom
