• 4 Comfortable En-Suite Tents
  • Manyeleti Game Reserve
  • True african big five safari
  • Award winning & excellent rated

Pungwe is situated in the remote and undeveloped southern portion of the Manyeleti Reserve, on the northern border of the Sabi Sand Reserve and the eastern border of the Kruger National Park. We are fortunate to have unfenced boundaries with both of these iconic reserves, allowing for free movement of animals between the three reserves.

Manyeleti is renowned for its large concentrations of game and relatively low levels of development guaranteeing exceptional game viewing with minimal vehicle densities. If exclusivity is the true definition of luxury then with only 4 en-suite meru-styled tents, Pungwe offers the kind of intimacy one only finds in a truly unique authentic safari camp.

The thatched roofs over each of the large tents ensure that the interiors remain cool in summer and mild in winter. The en-suite bathrooms with their free-standing hot showers, large baths, flushing toilets and intricately designed basins provide all the creature comforts one expects. Each of the tents offers either twin or king-size options under four-poster style mosquito nets, providing protection and an ambience reminiscent of a by-gone era, further enhanced by the soft glow of lanterns. Our food is wholesome and often cooked over an open fire using locally sourced fresh produce.

We do cater for vegetarian requirements and although remote and off the grid, the luxury of ice is always available.Pungwe Safari Camp has been operating on the same site for over 24 years offering memorable safaris of real value to our guests. At Pungwe our ethos is to deliver a truly authentic safari experience with limited impact on the environment. We believe that the essence of any safari is best captured in the sights, sounds and smell of the bush and we endeavour to create an environment in which these elements take centre stage so that our guests have a life-altering experience.

“An spectacular experience to anyone with a sense of adventure”

Unfortunately, we had only the chance to stay for one night in this fantastic camp, next time we will stay longer in any case.
The experience was very unique, no electricity, but full comfort and my best safari ever. Only 4 luxury, very spacious tents with excellent beds. Personal service is guaranteed. I also like to mention the candlelight dinner, we all were sitting around a big table and enjoyed our delicious food and the great stories of Michel. Even my late request for a vegetarian food was met – and it was fantastic.
Last but not least I want also to mention the great team – service at its best (every wish was read from the guest’s lips).
After several times in southern Africa, I can really recommend Pungwe Safari Camp – don’t miss this unique experience with the real bush feeling.

    “Amazing experience!!!!”

We stayed four nights at Pungwe and loved every minute!!!
We arranged a transfer from Hoedspruit airport to the camp, which was the only 1.5hr drive to the camp. When we arrived, we were greeted with a nice welcome drink and showed around the dining, lounge and bar area. The bar was an honour system, so you can help yourself to alcohol or non-alcoholic drinks at any time and just write it down under your room/tent name! During the welcome drink time, the staff went over daily timetable.
Our private bush tent/cabin with en-suite was very spacious and well appointed. The bed was extra large with rich linens, mosquito net draped around the bed! Our en-suite had a lovely claw foot tub and separate shower!!
But the unforgettable part of our time there was the animals!! We saw more game then we could have imagined!! We saw lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, water buffaloes, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, kudo, impala, and many birds, flora and fauna!
Pungwe Safari Camp is a true safari experience, an authentic bush feeling!!!
THANK YOU, to staff, guide and owners for our magical time at Pungwe!! We highly recommend Pungwe Safari Camp!

    “Nice little safari camp”

We stayed two nights at Pungwe.
We arrived through a local gate and drove 1.5 hours to the camp. It’s better to arrive through Orpen gate. The way is well marked with signs. We wished we had a 4×4, but we made it. We could join the game drive the afternoon we arrived, so you should be there by 2.30 pm. Dinner and Breakfast were excellent. We really like the warm water bottle in our bed when we came back to our tent after dinner. Pungwe is a small camp and therefore is very familiar. The game drives and the bush walk in the morning were great!

    “A lovely little safari camp”

We stayed at Pungwe Bush Camp for the night on 9 July 2017. It’s a small, four tent camp but is really pretty and the tents are really spacious, with large en-suite bathrooms. The lounge and dining area is also really nicely done, and it’s simple but effective. The service from the staff is really good and the food excellent. This is how safari camps should be – very relaxed, low-key and simple but cozy and comfortable. We had buffalo and hyena in the camp at night and their tracks were everywhere when we got up in the morning, which was very exciting. Our host/manager Michel was wonderful and very knowledgable and his team were great. And the braai under the stars was a great thing for a carnivore like me – with steak, wors and chicken kebabs done with baked potatoes, pap and a lovely tomato and onion sauce. Well done to everyone and thanks for the experience. It was a lovely way to end our holiday.
