This is Tanda Tula, where in 1976 South Africa’s very first East African–styled luxury safari camp was born.

The Timbavati is home to extraordinary concentrations of wildlife, including Africa’s iconic Big Five, and much of this life wanders freely through our camps.

Guests often find themselves eye-to-eye with the untamed world, connected to nature in a way that feels both humbling and unforgettable.

For decades Tanda Tula has been celebrated for something rare: authentic luxury, offered with unmistakable warmth and genuine joy.

With only nine secluded, handcrafted suites, we honour the quiet rhythm of the bush and the simplicity of true safari living.

Set along the sandy curves of the Nlharalumi riverbed, our newly re-imagined, eco-sensitive camp is currently taking shape—designed to tread lightly while still capturing the soul of the original Tanda Tula. Canvas remains at its heart, ensuring guests stay immersed in the wilderness rather than merely observing it.

After 27 remarkable years, our bones needed renewal.

This rebuild is our promise—to safeguard this landscape and protect the wild spaces we love for generations still to come.
