Thonga Beach Lodge is set on the pristine shores of the Maputuland Coast, KwaZulu-Natal. This 24 bed luxury lodge is the ideal place to discover one of Africa’s last unspoilt wilderness beaches. Activities
Thonga Beach Lodge offers the ideal destination for a beach holiday and is situated only metres from the beach and a 25 minute drive from Lake Sibaya (Southern Africa’s largest freshwater lake), which is part of the Isimangaliso Wetland Park, now recognised as a World Heritage Site. Activities at Thonga Beach Lodge include snorkeling with a great diversity of underwater seascapes and marine flora and fauna; scuba diving, bird watching, guided wilderness walks, turtle tracking and fishing.
The diverse flora of this region is home to a large variety of aquatic life, birds and mammals. The second highest population of crocodiles and hippos in KwaZulu-Natal can be found here at Lake Sibaya. Here are six animal species which can be encountered here, namely the white-tailed mongoose, water mongoose, hippos, reedbuck, vlei atoms and the African marsh rat.
Twenty frog species being tropical, the common fish species found here are Grass Frogs, Reed Frogs as well as toads. The African Python, the Forest Cobra as well as the Nile Crocodile also live here.
