What Is Klaserie Private Nature Reserve?

Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest privately owned game reserves in South Africa, covering approximately 60,000 hectares of unfenced bushveld on the western boundary of Kruger National Park in Limpopo province. As a founding member of the Greater Kruger ecosystem — alongside Sabi Sands, Timbavati, and Thornybush — Klaserie shares an open boundary with the national park, allowing wildlife to move freely across the combined wilderness of over 2 million hectares.

Unlike the more commercialised reserves, Klaserie is owned by a consortium of private landowners and is known for its wild, undeveloped character. It has fewer lodges per hectare than Sabi Sands or Timbavati, meaning game drives feel genuinely remote and wildlife encounters happen without the presence of multiple vehicles.

Where Is Klaserie Private Nature Reserve?

Klaserie is located between Timbavati to the south and Thornybush to the northwest, accessed via Hoedspruit in Limpopo. The Klaserie River — a seasonal tributary of the Olifants — runs through the reserve and is one of the primary wildlife corridors.
